6th Grade Parents - The following are general items suggested for 7th grade:
• Several notebooks (couple specifically for math notes)
• Composition notebooks for science and math
• 2 ½ Binder (NO ZIP-UP BINDERS)
• Couple of Folders
• Pencils & Pens
• Loose Leaf Paper (if preferred)
• 2 locks (one for the hallway locker & one for the PE locker; spare keys or combinations should be turned into the office)
• Calculator (TI-30XIIS)
• Tennis shoes, shorts and t-shirt for PE
• Student Planner or Organizer
Illinois Department of Corrections is hosting a Job Fair on Tuesday, May 24th in Chester, Illinois at the Eagles Club. They will have staff there to speak with interested individuals about various positions they have available including but not limited to Officers & Nurses. They are recruiting for the Chester facility, but also any nearby facilities as well.

Joppa High School Beta Club will be hosting a Massac County Color Run on Saturday, May 28th, at Fort Massac State Park in Metropolis, IL. Registration is $35 on-site and includes a t-shirt and a free pair of sunglasses to the first 78 people on-site. Please arrive between 8:15-8:30am for registration at the Welcome Center.

There will be a Senior Breakfast tomorrow, May 12, at 8am before graduation practice. All members of the Senior Class of 2022 are invited to attend!
Shawnee Community College will be the site of the 14th annual ELITE (Educate, Lead, and Inspire Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs) Youth Entrepreneur Camp, scheduled for July 18 – 21, 2022, at the main campus. This is a 4-day camp for 7th, 8th, and 9th graders. The students will prepare a business plan throughout the week. Guest presenters will cover various topics related to entrepreneurship. Students will also take a field trip to see how actual businesses operate on a daily basis. The camp concludes with students making a presentation on their business plans on the final day. Parents, guardians, and other guests are invited to a luncheon and the presentation ceremony. Winning students will receive awards in three categories including prize money to assist in their entrepreneurship efforts.
The ELITE Camp is coordinated by Shawnee Community College, Southernmost Illinois Delta Empowerment Zone (SIDEZ), and University of Illinois Extension. For more information or to obtain an application, contact Brett Whitnel at 618-634-3213.
This week the freshman World History class is learning about WWI. Students learned about trench warfare and then took part in it on their own. They loved this hands on learning experience.
The 8th graders had a great time at Atomic City for their 8th grade trip. Students played arcade games, bumper cars, mini golf, laser tag, and raced go-karts. Students also enjoyed some tasty pizza from Pizza Inn. Everyone had a blast! Thank you to Mrs. Beth Adkins for driving the bus, Atomic City and Pizza Inn for being amazing hosts.
The doors will open at 6:00 tonight and graduation will start at 7:00. Graduation will be held in the JHS gym, all are welcome to attend.
