Good morning! We are reaching out to ask for bags of candy and two-liter bottles of soda for our Joppa Spirit Night. If you send in a bag of candy or two-liter bottle, you will be entered into a drawing for a $30 gift certificate for Strickland’s Seafood Restaurant. Every bag or bottle sent in equals a chance to win. If you send in two bottles and two bags of candy, you will be entered to win four times. Be sure you send a note with your donations so we know how many times to enter you into the drawing. The drawing for the gift certificate will be held on October 16, so make sure to get the candy and soda here by then. Also, make sure we have a way to contact you if you are the winner. Thank you for your support!

Hello families,
There seem to be some misunderstandings about the procedures for taking vacations during the school year. Here is the exact quote from the Student Handbook that was gone over in classrooms on the first day of school and is available on our website:
"All other absences are considered unexcused. Pre-arranged excused absences must be approved by the building principal. Requests for pre-arranged absences should be made in writing, at least two weeks prior to the anticipated vacation dates, to the principal. Pre-planned absences will be considered for up to a maximum of five days as long as the student has 2 or fewer absences accumulated at the time. Pre-planned absences will not be approved when the student has accumulated 7 or more absences for the year. The principal may approve or deny the request based on prior attendance records, academic progress, and behavior. "
Please do not expect teachers to provide work or make-up work if you have not had your vacation plans pre-approved. If vacations are not pre-approved, the absences will be considered unexcused.
We operate on the fundamental understanding that "if you are to succeed in anything, consistency, punctuality, and regular attendance are prerequisites."
Thank you,
Ms. Wear, Principal
As part of the School Code, Joppa-Maple Grove UD #38 must provide Notice that the school will have a Lockdown Drill in advance. This notification serves as that notice.. The drill will be September 21 at 10:30 am. If you would like to exempt your child from the lockdown drill, you need to call or email the office and let either Donna or Linda know. This will only exempt them from the lockdown drill. These drills are just that, a drill, and will not use any form of dramatizing to act out of real situations.
