To Parents and Community Members:
On Thursday, September 19th, a junior high student was suspended for making threatening comments related to “school shootings”. Per our School Security Officer, there was no imminent threat or danger to anyone in the building so the school was never on lockdown and the situation was quickly resolved.
This evening we learned that a threatening message was left in a high school classroom that said “Joppa - we’re coming for you. Watch out. 10:35.” A photo of the message has been circulating throughout the school district this evening on social media and via text messages.
After discussion tonight with the School Safety Team, there is no evidence that points to a legitimate threat to faculty, staff or student safety tomorrow so school will be in session as planned on Friday, September 20th with heightened awareness among our Security Team. We have also requested that county law enforcement be on site tomorrow.
Please note that we take all threats seriously and always go through a thorough investigation when making these decisions. Please help us limit rumors and misinformation on social media and please contact school administrators if you have questions.
Thanks
Dr. Greg Goins, Superintendent
