Consumer Education had a guest speaker from the Army today. SFC Weaver spoke about goals and life plans. He shared his favorite places he has had the opportunity to visit and explained why he decided to go into the Army.

Congratulations to Hayden Castleman! He placed second at WYSE/ACES Sectional competition at Southern Illinois University in Computer Science. He will compete at Eastern Illinois University for the state competition in April. Good luck, Hayden! We are proud of you!!

The Joppa High School chapter of Educators Rising Leadership Team competed in several events at Shawnee College today through the So. IL Future Teachers Coalition. The team placed 3rd in Marketing and Communication and received an award for Team Based Challenge.

We need your help Joppa-Maple Grove community. It is important to verify the accuracy of the state’s availability map so funds can be distributed to the underserved areas. Underserved locations are those without reliable service of at least 25 Mbps download speed and 3 Mbps upload speed.
I encourage everyone to participate in the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity broadband challenge process. You can participate in the challenge phase by completing internet speed tests at BEADchallenge.org. Speed tests completed anytime through March 18 will be accepted. Don’t forget, you need to complete the test three times from your home residence. Thank you!

THANK YOU to all of the families that came to our Family Fun Literacy Night. I hope you all had as much fun as we did. Congratulations to Ralph Myers. He was the winner of the 50/50 drawing. Mr. Myers didn't even take his half of the money. He donated it back to the senior class. Thank you so much for your generosity! Thank you to Ms. Johnnie Owens for being the photographer last night. We will be having one more event toward the end of the school year to raise funds for PBIS and the new playground. Stay tuned for more information about that night.
Tonight is the Night! Family Fun Literacy Night starts at 5 pm. The Seniors will have a 50/50 raffle and the Class of 2028 (8th Grade) will be selling Sweet Treats. The Spaghetti Supper starts at 5 pm (and will only be served until 6 pm). Just some clarification- Literacy Night has been renamed to Family Fun Night. We are going to have some amazing reading activities along with some other sessions that will give families some fun ideas that you can do at home too. We have added some more sessions to choose from as well. You will get a program when you arrive that detail the locations and session names. So far we are at 29% parent participation for Joppa Jr/Sr High School and 10% for Maple Grove Elementary. We really need to boost these percentages so our scores on the Illinois Report Card can rate us Exemplary.
