Greetings, This is a reminder that Joppa-Maple Grove School District has an early dismissal today for remote learners at 1:26 pm. Remote learners will have additional access with teachers until 2:26 pm. The early dismissal is due to the the Thanksgiving holiday.

Dear Parents, students and families,
I first want to thank you for your patience and understanding for navigating new challenges and inconveniences this school year. It hasn’t been easy, but we all do our best to pull together and support students.
Unfortunately, our region has seen a rapid rise of COVID-19 cases that is both alarming and concerning for our students and staff. Therefore, we are making the extremely difficult decision as an administration and Board of Education to revert all students to remote learning, effective Monday, November 23, 2020. We recognize this decision will please some and anger others. We promise it was not a decision any of us took lightly.
At the end of the day, both the administration and board of education felt reverting to remote learning was necessary to protect the health and welfare of not only our students and staff, but also the Joppa-Maple Grove community.
At this time, we hope to have students return to school on Monday, December 7, 2020.
We recognize you have questions about how this announcement will affect your student and daily schedule. We hope this email can answer some of those questions.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. We will always try to keep the lines of communication open with families.
Meals will continue to be prepared daily. You may pick up meals at the high school from 11:30 to 12:30 today and tomorrow. We will start delivering meals and packets next week. Please make sure to call the school to reserve your meals. High School 543-9023 ext. 1107.

Due to the rise in positive COVID cases and the numbers in quarantine, Joppa-Maple Grove School District will move to Remote Learning beginning Monday, November 23rd and will resume in person learning on Monday, December 7th. Meals will continued to be prepared this week and can be picked up at the high school between 11:30 and 12:30. Please notify the high school at 543-023 if you would like a meal.
High school boys and girls basketball will not occur this winter season. It has been postponed until the spring, along with most other sports. Start dates have not been confirmed yet for basketball. Volleyball will start in March, and Baseball and Softball will start in May.
Today is the day our Virtual Family Reading Event begins! This website will remain active through December 19th and we would love to have you join us by watching any or all of the videos. We wanted everyone to know that the heat is still being worked on at Maple Grove Elementary. We will be in school tomorrow. Temperatures on Thursday and Friday are to be close to the low 70's. It's still a good idea to have a light coat or jacket on when students are sent to school. Thanks for your understanding and patience and we will see everyone tomorrow.

Just a reminder that the The JHS Booster Club is hosting a burgers/dogs grab-and-go supper tomorrow night at Joppa HS. Meals will be available for pick up at the high school cafeteria from 5-6:30. The first 144 meals will have a hamburger and hot dog which makes it a two for one. The last 48 meals will be hamburgers only. You can also buy tickets for the raffle as well.
The grill raffle is tomorrow. Winner will be drawn approximately 630 tomorrow . $5 per ticket 5 tickets for $20. You can also buy tickets tomorrow during the booster clubs hamburger dinner night at Joppa HS.
High School Students - The actuarial profession is well respected, highly compensated, and often considered the best job in America. Illinois State University encourages students to consider this field and the Actuarial Program at ISU. They are one of only seventeen actuarial programs in the United States designated by the Society of Actuaries as a Center of Actuarial Excellence, and they were the first Center of Actuarial Excellence in the state of Illinois. They have been a Center of Actuarial Excellence since December 2009, the very beginning of that designation. They also won the Casualty Actuarial Society in 2016 (the inaugural competition) and in 2019 (after a required three year waiting period). Illinois State University is also a Global Center of Insurance Excellence.
They are located just next door to State Farm, one of the largest insurance companies in the world. They also run a special Summer program in actuarial science for minority high school students, which you can learn more about at https://business.illinoisstate.edu/katie/outreach/minority.shtml , and a program for all high school students: https://business.illinoisstate.edu/katie/outreach/risk/ . They had to, unfortunately, cancel the Summer programs for Summer 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but hope to be restarting in 2021.
As members of Southern Illinois Electric Cooperative, qualifying students are able to apply for various scholarships awarded to deserving students in the “electric cooperative family.”The Illinois Electric Cooperative (IEC) Memorial Scholarship Program awards twelve $2,000 scholarships annually to students entering college to assist with educational costs. Progress Reports were set home with students in attendance this afternoon. Students who are remote or absent may pick up their Progress Reports in the office.
Our Veterans Wall is complete. If you did not send a picture of someone you would like to have added to our wall, please go ahead and send it. We are going to leave this up for a while.
