"A New School Year Means New Beginnings, New Adventures."
-Denise Witmer
The Portrait of a Graduate is a visual representation of the collective vision of the skills, traits, and characteristics each student should obtain prior to graduating from Joppa High School. The triangle, often referred to as the "strongest shape" is the symbol that best represents this work that includes our three daily pillars of success in Grit, Growth & Grace. Inside each category, there are three (3) skills/competencies that have been identified as instructional priorities for all students. In teaching these skills, we will ultimately build new assessments to provide evidence of mastery in the classroom. The Joppa Portrait of a Graduate was designed by a school district committee during the 2024-25 school year and was based on momentum generated from Battelle for Kids, a national, not-for-profit organization helping to empower educators so that every student has hope, resilience, and the knowledge and skills to be future-ready.

The Joppa-Maple Grove School District launched its new NextGen Steam Lab/Makerspace (The Summit) as part of a JHS Library renovation project that was completed in August of 2025. The Summit is designed to engage students in hands-on science, technology, engineering, art, and math activities that encourage creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking. The space includes flexible seating, "collaboration stations" with 65 inch TV's, 3D printers and laser cutters and a Lego Wall for primary age students. This project was funded by Mr. Gary Miller, a Joppa High School graduate and philanthropist who has made numerous financial donations to support Joppa students.
In January 2025, the Joppa-MG School District made the switch from a traditional "school office" to a new “Parent Center" to better meet the needs of parents and community members. This new space includes new seating, a coffee bar, a tech center with free Internet access, and a Parent Library. The Parent Center is also the home of the Joppa Rangers Team Store with products sourced from area vendors and on-site merchandise produced by Joppa High School's new "entrepreneurial class" that is taught by Mrs. Kenzie Heady. Check back for new merchandise throughout the school year and watch for special "Parent Center" events that will be posted on our Facebook page.
